Background and aim: Coronary heart disease is major cause of death in the world. One of the diagnostic tests for coronary patients is catheterization which leads to stress and anxiety in most patients.  PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION program ((PMR)) is no drug interventions to reduce anxiety in patients. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of (PMR) on anxiety of patients undergoing for coronary artery angiography. Methods: This pre-post semi-experimental research was performed on 146 patients referred to the Shahid Rajaei heart hospital in Tehran for angiography. PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION program was prepared on a CD and was delivered to the patients. The anxiety was evaluated using a questionnaire before and after starting the program. Data were analyzed by using statistical tests, such as Chi-square and paired-t tests. Results: No significant statistical relation was seen between age, marital status and history of disease with anxiety agents (P>0.05). Demographic characteristics of patients showed a significant statistical relation between educational status, economic status and occupational status and history of admission to hospital with anxiety agents (P<0.05). Paired-T test showed a significant relation between anxiety in coronary heart patients before and after starting (PMR) program (P<0.05).Conclusion: Results of this study demonstrate a positive effect of (PMR) study on reducing anxiety in patients undergoing coronary heart angiography. Because of this positive effect of (PMR), using this method is recommended to control anxiety in similar patients.

Background and Purpose: The diagnosis of cancer in children causes a lot of anxiety and distress among their parents. Therefore, besides treating the children with cancer, it is essential to use efficient interventional techniques to enhance the mental health of their parents. The present study was conducted to compare the effect of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION ((PMR)) on the general mental health indicators in the mothers of children with leukemia. Method: The present study was a quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 45 mothers of the children with cancer who had referred to the oncology ward of 17 Shahrivar hospital of Rasht in 2017. They were selected by convenience sampling and then assigned randomly into three groups of mindfulness therapy (n=15), RELAXATION training (n=15) and control group (n=15). Demographic questionnaire, interview, cancer diagnostic tests, and general health questionnaire were the instruments used in this research study. After the pretest, the two experimental groups received the interventions for two months (8 sessions of two hours), whereas the control group received no intervention. Then, all three groups were evaluated at the stages of posttest and follow up. Results: Data analysis by repeated measures ANOVA showed significant differences between the groups in physical complaints (F= 6. 622, P < 0. 01), anxiety (F= 10. 236, P<0. 01), social dysfunction (F= 4. 452, P<0. 05) and depression (F= 10. 866, P<0. 01). The difference between the stages of pre-test, post-test, and follow-up was significant in anxiety (F= 46. 681, P<0. 01), social dysfunction (F= 12. 610, P<0. 05) and depression (F= 3. 870, P< 0. 05), but no significant difference was observed in physical complains (F= 1. 720, P> 0. 05). Conclusions: Results showed that there was no significant difference between MBCT and (PMR) in improving the general health indicators in mothers of children with leukemia; however, both methods were effective in improving the mental health of mothers. Mindfulness improves the mental health indicators in individuals through training the attention control and time management. Also, the RELAXATION caused plays a role in decreasing the stress, anxiety, and depression of individuals. Consequently, both methods can be used together to improve the general health of parents of children with cancer.

Abstract:

Background: Anxiety is a special kind of anxiety that athletes competing in major competitions threshold to do so. The physical dimensions of anxiety symptoms such as tremor, palpitations, shortness of breath and symptoms such as cognitive symptoms include fear of failure and fear of poor performance, will occur. One of the psychological skills that are thought to be effective in reducing and controlling athletes' competitive anxiety, RELAXATION techniques are. It generally consists of two methods based on RELAXATION and cognitive. In this way, PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION, has been used. Methods: This study consisted of 30 players, club Zob Ahan, randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. First of all players by anxiety questionnaires-Competitive CSAI-2 pre-test was performed. The players were in the experimental group received 20 sessions of RELAXATION, then step test was performed.Findings: The results were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA with post hoc test, the paired t test, t- test for independent groups, respectively (P=0.05), showed a PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION rate reduce anxiety 's physical, cognitive anxiety brought down close to the border between the players resting heart rate is significantly reduced. Conclusion: The results showed that the goalkeepers and defenders, midfielders had significantly more cognitive anxiety but is not significant in comparison to the quarterback. have. And the native players one of the three subscales of cognitive anxiety, somatic anxiety and self-esteem were not significantly different.

Abstract:

Purpose: This study was designed to compare the effects of two different RELAXATION techniques, namely PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION ((PMR)) and autogenic RELAXATION (AGR) on moods of young soccer players. Methods: Sixteen adolescent athletes (mean age: 14.1±1.3) received either (PMR) or AGR training. Using Profile of Mood States-Adolescents, their mood states were measured one week before RELAXATION training, before the first RELAXATION session, and after the twelfth RELAXATION session. Results: Mixed ANOVA revealed no significant interaction effects and no significant main effects in any of the subscales. However, significant main effects for testing sessions were found for confusion, depression, fatigue, and tension subscales. Post hoc tests revealed post-intervention reductions in the confusion, depression, fatigue, and tension subscale scores. Conclusions: These two RELAXATION techniques induce equivalent mood responses and may be used to regulate young soccer players’ mood states.

Abstract:

Background and Aim: Some drugs are not effective merely in nausea and vomiting induced chemotherapy control, and increasing their usage causes undesirable effects. Pharmalogical– nonpharmalogical methods lead to a higher control on direct side-effects in comparison with traditional treatments. Furthermore, these combined methods decrease the amount of drug consumption and related severe results. The main goal of the present report was to assess the effect of PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION ((PMR)) on the dosage of antiemetic drugs in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.Materials and Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental one which was carried out on 61 patients regarding the corresponding sampling characteristics. The samples were divided randomly into two groups of case and control. The case group was trained (PMR) technique in the first period of chemotherapy. The performance of the technique continued with an educational cassette twice a day in the first period, after (at home about 3 weeks) and second period of chemotherapy. The control group used the routine care at the same period. The amounts of prescribed antiemetic drugs to patients and times of the (PMR) technique were recorded in the two periods of chemotherapy. Results: The mean dosage intravenouse metoclopramide (t=3.5, p=0.001) and oral antiacid (t=2.3, p=0.02) by paired t-test revealed the presence of a significant difference for case group and nonsignificant discrepancy for control group (p>0.05) over the two periods of chemotherapy. Moreover, the mean dosage intravenouse with independent t-test confirmed a significant difference between control and case groups in the second period of chemotherapy (t=2.06, p=0.04). However, the mean dosage granisetron and dexamethasone drugs did not show any significant difference between control and case groups in two the periods at the research (p>0.05).Conclusion: The results indicated that (PMR) effectively decreased the amount of dosage antiemetic drugs specially metoclopramide in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. According to the findings, it is recommended that nurses use (PMR) as a nursing care for the related patients.

Abstract:

Background: Pregnancy may be accompanied by serious physiological and psychological changes as it is a stressful period in a woman’s life. So, this study was conducted to determine the effect of PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION on pregnant women’s general health.Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial, 60 primigravida women admitted to the prenatal clinic of selected hospitals in Iran constituted the study population. Using purposive sampling method, the level of general health of the women was measured with General Health Questionnaire‑28 (GHQ‑28). Then, the samples were randomly divided into control and experimental groups. Three 1.5–2 h RELAXATION training sessions were held for the experimental group. After 8 weeks, the level of general health of both groups was measured again. Finally, the collected data were analyzed using Chi‑square and pairedt ‑test (P<0.05).Results: Total mean score of general health of the experimental group and the control group before the intervention was 35.83 (6.92) and 29.46 (8.3), respectively, and after the intervention, the respective scores were 20.2 (5.61) and 27.85 (8.24). Although after the intervention both groups showed an increased level of general health, the difference in general health between before and after intervention was significant in the experimental group (P<0.001). Furthermore, comparison of variations in mean scores of general health level before and after intervention in the two groups showed a significant difference (P<0.001).Conclusions: Given that the results showed the effectiveness of PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION on pregnant women’s general health, the prenatal clinics can include a training program for PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION in the routine training programs for pregnant women.
